Walking Food Tours in Montreuil-sur-Mer
Opal Coast Food Tours
If you enjoy gastronomy and want to immerse yourself in local food culture, our tour is an excellent way to do both.
This walking tour of Montreuil-sur-Mer takes in some of the best local producers, suppliers and restaurants in the town, giving you not only an authentic taste of this part of France, but an insight into the French approach to food, drink and life-style. During the tour, you'll taste many traditional foods, drinks and dishes from the region and experience le petit café, l'apéro and le déjeuner.

Each Friday morning, we take a small group of food lovers on a guided gourmet tour of our local town, Montreuil-sur-Mer.
We visit a selection of our favourite producers, ending with a lunch in one of the town’s traditional restaurants.
The tour is all in English, on foot and hosted by local residents Sarah and Paddy Daly, who moved here from the UK. It’s a gentle, largely level and accessible, walk.
If you are visiting the area for a weekend, or longer, we can help you get the most out of your stay, with our exploration of the rich heritage and food culture of Montreuil-sur-Mer and the cuisine of the Opal Coast. We'll also suggest some of the best places to eat in/visit (based on our personal experience as hardened gastronauts).

Discover Ch'ti Cuisine
This area, known as the Ch'ti, rightly has a reputation as one of the most welcoming in France and the food here is fabulous.
We can tell you more about the background to particular dishes, often with surprising links to the United Kingdom. You’ll get the opportunity to sample local and often seasonal specialities along the way and to understand more about the provenance of what you are eating.

Why Montreuil-sur-Mer?
France’s Opal Coast is a beautiful stretch of beaches and towns running from Dunkirk in the Nord to Berck-sur-Mer in the Pas-de-Calais.
Heralded by The Times newspaper as a "Destination Gastronomique", the picturesque citadelle town of Montreuil-sur-Mer has restaurants catering for all tastes and budgets. From Sushi to rotisserie, from coffee roasting cafés to two Michelin star fine dining – and all in a small walkable town.
Our town is largely made up of small, independent shops selling interesting items, be they edible, useful or ornamental. The only thing we don’t offer is the sea, as that retreated many hundreds of years ago (but the ‘sur-Mer’ was retained seemingly to avoid confusion with another Montreuil near Paris).
Victor Hugo stayed here (in the Hotel de France, which still exists but soon to be converted into apartments) and it was his experiences in the town that led to his celebrated work Les Miserables. You will see reference to this in many places and if you visit in August you may be able to see the Son et Lumiere' show put on by townspeople in the citadelle each year. Be warned, tickets can sell out well in advance though.
